Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has played down speculation that the German champions could move for Erling Haaland if Manchester City face relegation from the Premier League, insisting that Bayern already have enough firepower in attack.
Speaking to German newspaper BILD on Sunday, 11 October 2026, Hainer was asked whether Bayern would consider signing the Norwegian striker if Manchester City were forced out of England’s top flight amid their ongoing financial charges case.

Hainer pointed to Bayern’s existing attacking options, including England captain Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Díaz, as evidence that the club do not urgently need another high-profile forward.
“We have Kane, Olise, Diaz and more. We scored over 120 goals last season. So, I think we are very well equipped in attack,” Hainer said.
His comments suggest that Bayern are satisfied with the depth and quality of their current forward line, despite the prospect of Haaland becoming a subject of transfer speculation should Manchester City’s circumstances change.
Haaland remains one of the most prominent strikers in European football, having established himself as a prolific goalscorer since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
His combination of physical strength, movement and finishing ability has made him a central figure in City’s attack.
However, any potential transfer would depend on several factors, including Manchester City’s legal situation, the player’s contractual position, Bayern’s recruitment priorities and the financial demands of a deal.
Manchester City’s case concerning alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules has attracted considerable attention.
However, relegation should not be treated as an established outcome, and there is no confirmation in the supplied report that Bayern have made a formal approach for Haaland.
Bayern’s existing attacking options also help explain Hainer’s measured response. Kane provides an established goalscoring presence, while Olise and Díaz offer creativity, pace and attacking versatility across the forward line.
Hainer did not completely rule out the possibility of future changes, leaving room for the club to reassess its recruitment needs over time.
His remarks, however, offered no indication of an immediate move for the Manchester City striker.

For now, Bayern appear content with their current options, while speculation about Haaland’s future remains dependent on developments at Manchester City and the wider transfer market.
