Ariket drug trafficking case sees Lagos socialite jailed 15 years as court convicts her over cocaine trafficking linked to Saudi Arabia

Lagos socialite Funmilayo Ogbuaya, popularly known as Funmilayo Ogbuaya, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a competent court for her role in a cocaine trafficking network linked to Saudi Arabia, in a ruling that has sent shockwaves through social circles in the state.

The conviction followed the recovery of 1.595 kilograms of cocaine, which prosecutors said formed part of a wider trafficking operation.

The court also handed a 25-year prison sentence to her associate, Odeyemi Omolara, after both were found culpable in the criminal enterprise.

The judgement marks a decisive conclusion to the Ariket Drug Trafficking Case, which had drawn public attention due to Ogbuaya’s high-profile lifestyle and visibility within Lagos social scenes.

According to court proceedings, the drugs were linked to an international trafficking route with connections to Saudi Arabia, although full operational details of the network were not extensively disclosed in the summary of the ruling.

The court’s decision comes shortly after reports of a lavish outing by Ogbuaya in Lagos, an episode that had circulated widely on social media and intensified public scrutiny of her activities.

Legal authorities described the sentencing as a firm response to organised drug trafficking, underscoring ongoing efforts to clamp down on narcotics networks operating through Nigeria’s commercial hubs.

The shocking outcome has sparked renewed conversations around drug-related offences and the influence of social status in criminal proceedings, particularly in Lagos where high-profile cases often attract significant public attention.

As of press time, no formal statement had been issued by the convicts’ legal representatives regarding the ruling.
