This defeat not only secured Dubois’s IBF heavyweight title but also left Joshua’s future in the sport uncertain. In accordance with the regulations set by the British Boxing Board of Control and the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports, a mandatory 28-day medical suspension has been imposed on Joshua following the knockout.
Despite the setback, Joshua expressed his determination to continue fighting, insisting that retirement is not on his mind. “You’re probably asking if I still want to consider fighting. Of course, I want to continue fighting,” he stated. He reflected on the challenges of the fight, acknowledging that fine margins can make a difference at the top level.
Joshua also praised Dubois, saying, “When I sign up to fight opponents, I don’t really like them in my head anymore. But now that it’s done, I take my hat off to him and say well done.”
The suspension means Joshua will be eligible to return to the ring in November 2024, as he aims to bounce back from this recent defeat.
