ALAT at 9 anniversary campaign launches with rewards, challenges and new features as Wema Bank celebrates nine years of digital banking innovation

Wema Bank has launched the ALAT at 9 anniversary campaign to mark nine years of its digital banking platform, ALAT, reinforcing its push for innovation and customer engagement in Nigeria’s financial sector.

The ALAT at 9 anniversary campaign celebrates the platform’s evolution since its launch in 2017 as Africa’s first fully digital bank, created to eliminate the limitations of traditional banking such as long queues, physical barriers and slow service delivery.

Over the years, ALAT has expanded into a comprehensive digital ecosystem, offering services that range from instant account opening to structured savings tools like ALAT Goals, while supporting individuals, businesses and a growing base of digitally savvy users.

To commemorate the milestone, Wema Bank introduced a series of interactive activities designed to reward customers and deepen engagement.

Among the highlights is the personalised “ALAT Wrapped” feature, which provides users with a visual summary of their banking journey on the platform.

Customers are also encouraged to participate in a “9 Features in 9 Days” experience, where completing daily tasks unlocks rewards, promoting consistent use of the app.

Additional incentives include instant rewards for users who complete their ninth transaction at precisely 9:00am or 9:00pm.

A creative element of the campaign is the ALAT Evolution Jingle Challenge, inviting customers to contribute a second verse to the platform’s signature tune for a chance to win prizes.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, described the campaign as both a celebration and a forward-looking initiative.

“ALAT at 9 is not just a celebration of time. It is a reflection of how far we have come and a clear indication of where we are going,” Moruf Oseni said, adding that the bank remains committed to building an engaging and rewarding digital experience.

Chief Digital Officer Olusegun Adeniyi noted that the initiative blends everyday banking with interactive engagement, using personalised insights and gamified features to enhance user experience.

The month-long campaign, running from May 2 to May 31, encourages both existing and new customers to access the ALAT app, complete tasks and unlock rewards, further strengthening the platform’s position in Nigeria’s competitive digital banking landscape.
