Air Tanzania launches Lagos-Dar Es Salaam flight, boosting trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between Nigeria and Tanzania

The Air Tanzania Lagos-Dar Es Salaam flight marks a major milestone in enhancing economic and business ties between Nigeria and Tanzania, said CEO Peter Ulanga during the launch over the weekend.

Ulanga highlighted that the direct air link will unlock vast opportunities for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.

“This is more than a new route. It is a rhythm of progress, starting with three weekly flights connecting Dar es Salaam and Lagos,” he said.

The new service is set to boost commerce, facilitating the flow of goods such as Nigerian yams and Tanzanian coffee, while also advancing the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

Ulanga encouraged Nigerian travellers to explore Tanzania’s world-renowned attractions including the Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar’s beaches.

Beyond passengers, the airline plans to expand cargo operations with a freighter capacity of 54 tons.

“With Lagos now in our network, Air Tanzania connects to 29 destinations across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, including Johannesburg, Nairobi, Dubai, Mumbai, and Guangzhou. This is a shared destiny for our people,” Ulanga added.

The CEO affirmed the airline’s commitment to safety, reliability, and excellence while strengthening bonds between East and West Africa.

He also expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government, Tanzanian authorities, and project partners such as CRDB Bank, NIC, UTT AMIS, and Boeing for their support.

Aligning with the CEO’s remarks, Prof. Godius Kahyarara, Permanent Secretary of Tanzania’s Ministry of Transport, said: “Nigeria is Africa’s second largest economy. This direct connection will strengthen trade, investment, and people-to-people ties.”

The launch ceremony gathered officials from both governments, tourism and business leaders, logistics operators, and members of the African diaspora in Nigeria.

Tanzania’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Selestine Kakele, described the new flight as “a bridge across the skies connecting two magnificent nations and great cities.”
