The Adamawa State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Kabiru Hassan, on Monday confirmed the arrest of Abubakar Musa over the alleged murder of Nathaniel Yusuf, a 30-year-old resident of Jambutu Ward in Yola North Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest followed a report made at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kofare, by Grace Yusuf, the sister of the deceased, who alleged that her brother had been attacked by the suspect.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, police officers responded to the distress call and moved to the scene, where they rescued the victim and rushed him to the Specialist Hospital, Jimeta, for medical attention.

The suspect was also arrested at the scene, the police said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf allegedly sustained severe injuries, including fractures to both legs, his right hand and his head, after he was reportedly attacked with a stick.

Despite efforts by medical personnel, Yusuf was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

The police said the Commissioner of Police had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola to take over the case and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

“The deceased’s body has been deposited at the medical facility for an autopsy, while the investigation is ongoing,” the police statement said.

The development adds to ongoing efforts by security authorities in Adamawa to address violent crimes and ensure that suspects linked to criminal offences face due legal processes.

The command assured residents that justice would be pursued in the matter and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.

Police authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances that led to the alleged attack, while investigations continue to establish the full facts of the case.
