APC warned against screening Abiodun as court moves to probe alleged false oath, U.S. criminal record claim

Abiodun alleged false oath probe sparks APC tension as court filings question eligibility ahead of screening process in Lagos

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are facing renewed political pressure following court filings at the Federal High Court, Lagos Division, challenging the eligibility of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun over allegations of false declaration and oath-related discrepancies.

The false oath probe stems from a suit filed by civil society groups and rights advocates seeking a declaration that the governor should be disqualified from future elective office in Nigeria.

The applicants are asking the court to determine claims bordering on alleged inconsistencies in sworn documents submitted to public institutions.

According to the filings, the allegations include contradictory educational declarations and alleged omissions in previously submitted records.

The claims also reference disputed assertions about academic history and alleged concealment of past legal matters, although none of the allegations have been proven in court.

The case has placed both the APC and INEC in a sensitive position, with legal notices reportedly served warning against any screening or nomination process involving the governor until judicial determination.

Abiodun false oath probe has intensified internal political debate, with some party stakeholders urging caution to avoid reputational and legal complications.

Party insiders argue that proceeding with screening under ongoing litigation could expose the party to political and institutional embarrassment if the court later rules against the governor.

A source familiar with the matter said suspending the process would be the most prudent approach until judicial clarity is achieved.

The Federal High Court case is expected to test both legal interpretation and political compliance with constitutional provisions governing eligibility for public office.

Officials of APC and INEC have not issued an official public response to the latest filings at the time of reporting.

The development adds a new layer of tension to early political alignments ahead of future electoral contests, with analysts closely watching how the situation unfolds.

For now, the Abiodun alleged false oath probe remains before the courts, with final determination expected to shape both legal and political outcomes.
