The alleged hacking of ₦180 million from the account of Martins Vincent Otse Initiative, an NGO founded by activist VeryDarkMan, has sparked jurisdictional confusion as both the Plateau State and FCT Police Commands deny involvement in the investigation.
DSP Alabo Alfred, spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, stated that the matter was neither reported to their command nor committed within their jurisdiction.
He clarified, “The crime happened in Abuja. If VeryDarkMan is coming to Jos, it doesn’t mean we are handling the case.”
Similarly, Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, stated, “The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving the missing funds. There is no record of such a report with us.”
The Martins Vincent Otse Initiative, launched in October to address educational challenges in Nigeria, had received significant donations, including ₦100 million from music producer Don Jazzy.
VeryDarkMan revealed that hackers stole ₦180 million from the NGO’s account, with reports suggesting that one suspect had been apprehended. Despite his claims of heading to Jos to recover the funds, the handling of the case remains unclear.
The incident highlights growing concerns over cyberattacks on NGOs and the need for stronger measures to secure financial systems.
