Victor Osimhen UEFA Cup pledge

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen promises to bring the UEFA Cup to Turkey after scoring in Galatasaray’s 1-1 draw with AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, one of Europe’s top goal scorers, has pledged to bring European football glory to Turkish side Galatasaray after their 1-1 draw with AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League.

Osimhen, who was instrumental in securing the hard-fought draw, scored a vital equaliser in the 43rd minute after the Dutch side had taken an early lead.

Despite the draw, the striker’s confidence in the team’s European aspirations remains unwavering, and he has made a bold promise to bring the UEFA Cup to Turkey.

In an interview with Parçalı Sportz, a popular Turkish sports media outlet, Osimhen told fans, “I said I would score a goal, and I did.

I promise you one more thing; I will bring the UEFA Cup to Turkey.” His declaration has sparked excitement among Galatasaray supporters, who are eager to see the team achieve continental success.

Osimhen’s stunning performance in the Europa League fixture only reinforced his position as a fan favourite at Galatasaray.

His promise of European glory follows a string of impressive displays since joining the Turkish club, with the striker quickly becoming a key figure in their attack.

The match against AZ Alkmaar left Galatasaray sitting in 4th place in the Europa League Group Stage with 11 points, just two points behind the leaders.

Their next challenge is on December 12, 2024, when they travel to Sweden to face Malmö FF on Matchday 6.

Galatasaray’s ambitions to win the UEFA Cup are further fueled by their historic triumph in the 1999-2000 season, where they defeated Arsenal to claim the prestigious trophy—marking the first time a Turkish club had won a European club football title.

They also won the UEFA Super Cup in 2000, solidifying their place in European football history.

In a separate development, AZ Alkmaar’s head coach, Maarten Martens, stoked the flames of the fierce Istanbul football rivalry when he declared, “Galatasaray is much bigger than Fenerbahçe,” in response to a question about his team’s struggles against the Turkish giants.

The comment has ignited a new round of heated debates among fans and pundits, further intensifying the rivalry between Istanbul’s two biggest clubs.
