The 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen forward underwent two days of medical tests at La Madonnina clinic and Galeazzi Hospital in Milan.
However, AC Milan doctors reportedly withheld final approval due to his history of serious injuries, including two cruciate ligament tears at Bodø/Glimt in 2019 and recurring muscle problems.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the setback on Sunday. “After medical tests at AC Milan, Victor Boniface returns to Germany, as there’s still no green light to his move,” he said.
“After 48 hours in Milano, Boniface will be back in Leverkusen today, waiting for AC Milan’s imminent decision on his medical tests/checks made over the weekend.”
The proposed deal includes a €5 million loan fee with a €24 million purchase option. While both clubs have advanced negotiations, Milan’s hesitation underlines how medical evaluations can make or break high-value transfers.
Boniface, who was pivotal in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga-winning campaign, remains highly rated in Europe.
Yet Milan’s caution reflects the growing scrutiny clubs place on long-term fitness when investing tens of millions in new signings.
