Tokunbo Wahab denounces false bribery allegations over Oral Estate drainage clearance and vows legal action to protect Lagos’ anti-flood efforts.

Tokunbo Wahab has denounced what he described as false and malicious bribery allegations linked to the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources’ ongoing clearance of illegal structures on drainage setbacks at Oral Estate in Ikota.

The Lagos State Commissioner stated that neither he nor any ministry official had ever requested or received any payment from property owners to halt the demolition exercise.

“My attention has been drawn to a circulating video containing false and malicious allegations that the Ministry demanded money from property owners to pause the ongoing removal of structures on drainage setbacks at Oral Estate, Ikota. I must state categorically that these claims are entirely false and a deliberate attempt to blackmail the government,” Wahab said.

He stressed that the clearance operation to reclaim the Right of Way and remove obstructions from channels and canals was a critical public safety initiative aimed at preventing flooding across Lagos.

“The operation has not been paused for any form of negotiation or payment. Our work continues,” he added.

Wahab described the propaganda as a dangerous distraction from the ministry’s mission to safeguard lives and properties.

He vowed to pursue legal action against those behind the allegations, insisting that the individuals responsible must provide proof to the appropriate authorities.

“This propaganda is a dangerous distraction from our critical mission to prevent flooding and protect the majority of Lagosians. We take these defamatory allegations with the utmost seriousness and shall be pursuing this matter legally,” Wahab said.

The commissioner’s swift response underscores his commitment to transparency and reinforces the state’s determination to continue its drainage clearance drive without compromise.
