Led by captain William Troost-Ekong, the squad’s energy was palpable, signaling their determination to secure a spot in the global showdown.
The camp opened on Monday, with early arrivals including Troost-Ekong, goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, and defender Bruno Onyemaechi.
Tuesday’s Super Eagles Training session, overseen by head coach Eric Chelle, featured a dynamic lineup:
defenders Felix Agu, Chidozie Awaziem, Benjamin Fredericks, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Calvin Bassey; midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Alex Iwobi; wing-back Olaoluwa Aina; and in-form Paris FC forward Moses Simon. Goalkeeper Adeleye Adebayo also joined the fray.
Key stars like Victor Osimhen, CAF African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman, and Raphael Onyedika were expected to arrive by Wednesday, alongside Stanley Nwabali, Christantus Uche, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, and Cyriel Dessers, fresh off deadline-day transfers.
Their imminent arrival adds firepower to an already vibrant squad.
Nigeria faces Rwanda on September 6 in Uyo, a must-win Matchday 7 clash, before traveling to Bloemfontein to battle South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on September 9.
Currently fourth in Group C with seven points, the Super Eagles are chasing South Africa (13 points) and Rwanda (8 points).
Only the group winner secures automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, making these matches critical.
Former international Victor Ikpeba expressed confidence, stating, “There’s pride, determination, and honor to play for your country. I believe the boys are ready to do the job against Rwanda and South Africa.”
Winger Samuel Chukwueze echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to win both games to boost Nigeria’s qualification hopes.
With the Super Eagles Training in full swing and more stars set to join, Nigeria’s camp is buzzing with anticipation.
