Sprite is launching a limited-edition “Sprite + Tea” flavor in Nigeria, a bold fusion inspired by consumer trends, featuring new packaging and a campaign with Eastside Golf, shaking up the summer beverage market

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]prite is poised to revolutionize the Nigerian beverage landscape this summer with the introduction of a groundbreaking limited-edition flavor: Sprite + Tea.

This innovative offering reimagines the traditional soda experience by blending Sprite’s iconic lemon-lime taste with refreshing iced tea, delivering an unexpected and unique refreshment.

The inspiration for this daring beverage mashup didn’t originate in a corporate boardroom but rather from a burgeoning consumer trend: mixing tea bags directly into Sprite.

“This flavor was born from the creativity of our fans,” stated Kate Schaufelberger, Brand Director for Sprite North America.

“We saw this trend catching on and wanted to bring our own spin to it — one that felt authentically Sprite.”

This grassroots origin highlights a growing industry trend of brands leveraging social listening for product innovation, a strategy increasingly relevant in dynamic markets like Nigeria.

The packaging for Sprite + Tea also boasts a visual refresh. While maintaining the instantly recognizable Sprite logo and signature green, the design incorporates rich gold and amber tones, alongside dynamic splash graphics and playful typography.

This contemporary aesthetic aims to stand out from traditional ready-to-drink tea brands, appealing to a youthful and adventurous demographic.

This flavor was born from the creativity of our fans… We saw this trend catching on and wanted to bring our own spin to it — one that felt authentically Sprite.

To amplify the launch, Sprite has strategically partnered with Eastside Golf, a cutting-edge fashion and lifestyle brand renowned for seamlessly integrating hip-hop and basketball culture into the traditional world of golf.

The collaboration is anchored by the theme “A Refreshing Take on Tea,” celebrating boundary-breaking creativity that resonates with Sprite’s brand ethos.

The campaign’s flagship advertisement, “The Fix,” features Eastside Golf founders Olajuwon Ajanaku and Earl Cooper, alongside artist Monaleo.

Sprite’s promotional efforts in Nigeria won’t stop there. A second ad, humorously proclaiming the new drink “not your granny’s tea,” is slated to air across out-of-home placements and various social media platforms.

Additionally, consumers can unlock exclusive perks through the new “Sprite Squad” digital experience by scanning any Sprite product, granting access to Eastside Golf content and other unique offerings.

Interestingly, the journey of Sprite + Tea from concept to market began as a research project led by an intern. The idea gained significant traction after exploding on TikTok, accumulating millions of views globally.

“The response validated everything we were feeling,” remarked A.P. Chaney, Senior Creative Director for Coca-Cola’s sparkling flavors division in North America. “This is the kind of moment where we can take a bigger swing and see where it lands.”

Chaney drew parallels between this new tea-soda hybrid and Sprite Lymonade, another fan-driven flavor that evolved from a grassroots combination into a market staple.

If Sprite + Tea garners sufficient resonance with fans, it could potentially secure a seasonal spot on Sprite’s flavor calendar, much like the popular returning favorite, Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry.

“As a brand, we’ve always embraced cultural disruptors,” Schaufelberger added. “Collaborating with Eastside felt like a perfect match — two forces blending tradition with boldness, just like Sprite + Tea itself.”
