Sani directly challenged Trump’s description of Nigeria as a “now disgraced country,” emphasising the nation’s history of sovereignty and pride. “Shehu Sani wants history to record that he outrightly opposed, rejected, and unreservedly condemned any act of Mr Trump’s foreign military aggression against my country under any guise or excuse,” he wrote.
The activist acknowledged Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges over the past 16 years but insisted that the country welcomes support that helps defeat terrorists. However, he firmly rejected foreign narratives framing the nation as dishonourable or complicit in targeted persecution.
“Shehu Sani stresses that Nigeria has never colonised, enslaved, invaded other nations, or dropped bombs on civilians. Without such a record, we cannot be called ‘disgraced,’” he added.
Sani also criticised Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged Christian persecution, calling it misinformation. He maintained that terrorism and banditry in Nigeria affect citizens regardless of their religion.
