Accompanied by his spouse, Gay, this visit underscores Rotary’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian service, impactful initiatives, and fostering partnerships in Africa.

Maloney’s arrival will be hosted by Rotary Trustee Ijeoma Pearl Okoro, alongside District Governors from Nigeria’s six Rotary International Districts and other notable leaders, including Past Rotary International Vice President Yinka Babalola.

Key Highlights of the Visit

1. Engagement with Nigerian Leadership

On Friday, 17 January, Maloney will meet with Nigeria’s President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

This discussion will centre on Rotary’s significant contributions to national development, from health initiatives to education and clean water access.

2. Spotlight on Rotary’s Impact in Nigeria

Nigeria is a pillar of Rotary’s global mission, boasting six Rotary International Districts, the largest humanitarian giving in Africa, and significant achievements such as being declared polio-free.

Nigeria is also a recipient of Rotary’s $2 million Programmes of Scale grant, which supports Maternal and Child Health projects.

3. Community Engagement and Outreach

Maloney’s visit will include several community-focused events, such as:

  • A symbolic polio immunisation session at Jahi Primary Health Centre, Abuja, on 16 January.
  • Visits to impactful project sites, including the Indo Eye Care Foundation in Lagos and underserved communities in Abuja.
  • Town hall meetings in Abuja and Lagos to engage with Rotarians and Rotaractors.

4. Celebratory Fundraising Events

The visit will culminate in two major fundraising events designed to inspire support for The Rotary Foundation’s mission:

  • Gala Night in Abuja (17 January): A celebration to boost contributions to Rotary’s humanitarian efforts.
  • Lagos Dinner (19 January): A ticketed event bringing together Rotarians, friends, and partners in a show of solidarity.

Statements from Rotary Leaders

Rotary Trustee Ijeoma Pearl Okoro shared her optimism about the visit’s impact, stating:
“This visit is creating positive vibes across communities in Nigeria and Ghana, showcasing how The Rotary Foundation is transforming lives. I am confident that Rotarians and friends of Rotary will find renewed passion and fulfilment in serving others.”

Victor Onukwugha, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, highlighted Rotary’s achievements:
“Rotary’s commitment to polio eradication, clean water, education, and disease prevention continues to leave an indelible mark on Nigeria, making it polio-free and a model for impactful service.”

District Governors Wole Kukoyi (District 9111) and Femi Adenekan (District 9112) added:
