Rivers Police arrest Iruo Young over car theft incident

Rivers car snatcher arrest sees police apprehend Iruo Young after a viral video showed him robbing a car owner at gunpoint in Choba, Port Harcourt

Rivers car snatcher arrest has led to the capture of 42-year-old Iruo Young, who was apprehended by the police following a viral video that showed a Toyota Avalon being snatched at gunpoint in the Choba area of Obio/Akpor LGA, Rivers State.

The arrest was confirmed on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who described the incident as a serious armed robbery that occurred around 3:00 pm on the day of the crime.

According to Iringe-Koko, the suspect was tracked and arrested through intelligence-led policing and technical support, which enabled operatives to trace him to a hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.

“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident,” she stated.

The video of the robbery, which spread rapidly on social media platforms, showed the brazen moment the car was intercepted and stolen at gunpoint, sparking widespread public concern and outrage.

The Rivers Police Command said efforts are currently underway to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover both the stolen Toyota Avalon and the firearms used during the operation.

Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, praised the swift action of his officers and also thanked residents who provided critical information leading to the arrest.

He reassured the public that criminals will find no safe haven in Rivers State, vowing that law enforcement will continue to pursue justice with diligence and resolve.

The Rivers car snatcher arrest comes amid a broader police clampdown on violent crime in the state, with authorities urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
