The workshop, held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, focused on practical skill acquisition, with pupils taught how to produce disinfectants, liquid dish soap and air fresheners.

The initiative was designed to introduce young learners to basic vocational skills while nurturing creativity and early entrepreneurial thinking.

Organised under the guidance of Rotarian Ambassador Ariyike Elegbede, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Ikeja Township, the programme aimed to equip pupils with practical knowledge that promotes self-reliance and problem-solving from an early age.

Participants received step-by-step demonstrations and took part in supervised hands-on sessions, producing their own items during the workshop.

Speaking at the event, Rtn. Elegbede stressed the importance of exposing children to vocational education alongside formal learning, noting that practical skills help spark innovation and lay the foundation for future economic independence.

He also highlighted the value of community partnerships in broadening access to learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

Teachers and guardians who attended the programme commended its interactive approach and immediate practical relevance, describing it as both engaging and impactful for the pupils.

Many noted that the hands-on format helped sustain the children’s interest while reinforcing learning through direct participation.

At the end of the session, pupils left with newly acquired skills, the products they created and a visible sense of achievement, underscoring the success of the initiative.

The workshop forms part of Rotary International’s Vocational Service Month activities, observed every January, and reflects the Rotary Club of Ikeja Township’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment, vocational education and the promotion of creativity and self-sufficiency among young learners in Lagos.
