President Tinubu judiciary warns against corrupt practices

President Tinubu judiciary warning stresses that justice must not be tainted by corruption as he calls for urgent reforms to strengthen trust in Nigeria’s courts

President Tinubu judiciary concerns took centre stage on Monday as the President cautioned judicial officers that justice must remain sacred and completely insulated from corruption.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 All Nigerian Judges Conference of the Superior Courts in Abuja, he warned that justice must never be for sale and that the Bench must not become a sanctuary for compromise.

The President described judicial officers as the true custodians of justice and pledged continued investment in welfare, training and the National Judicial Institute.

He emphasised that continuous learning and strong ethical renewal must shape the Bench in order to protect the credibility of the nation’s courts.

However, President Bola Tinubu stressed that no judicial reform can succeed without integrity.

He declared that corruption in any arm of government weakens the nation, while corruption within the Judiciary destroys it at its core.

The President Tinubu judiciary message highlighted that discipline must be firm, transparent and driven internally by every judicial officer, not only by the National Judicial Council.

Tinubu also criticised the growing backlog of cases and the slow pace of justice delivery, describing both as unacceptable and damaging to Nigeria’s democratic stability.

He urged judges to embrace bold and practical reforms that would restore public trust and strengthen the rule of law, noting that justice loses its legitimacy when delayed or tainted.

He acknowledged the frustration many Nigerians feel about delayed judgments, questionable conduct and the difficulty of accessing justice.

According to him, these concerns demand honest reflection and decisive action because public perception, even when imperfect, shapes confidence in the justice system.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting judicial capacity, Tinubu said technology must play a central role in future reforms.

He explained that digitisation and integrated case management would help build a more transparent and efficient system.

He insisted that support must be tangible through modern infrastructure, digital processes and improved working conditions.

The President Tinubu judiciary address concluded with a call on judges to deepen discipline, reduce congestion in courts and make justice more accessible and affordable.

Tinubu said Nigeria’s democratic evolution continues to be shaped by the courage, fairness and integrity of judicial decisions, adding that each fair judgment strengthens the Republic and each courageous ruling preserves its soul.
