Gov. Adeleke addresses political violence following alleged PDP attack on Irewole LG chair, urging calm and ordering security intervention.
Osun State Governor has reacted to reports of an alleged attack by suspected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs, resulting in the death of Irewole Local Government Chairman, Hon. Remi Abass.
The incident follows failed attempts by sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen and councillors to reclaim local government councils in the state.
In a statement, the governor called on all Osun residents, including politicians from all parties, to steer clear of local government secretariats to prevent further bloodshed and safeguard public property.
He emphasised that the council secretariats should remain closed following the withdrawal of service announced by the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) across the state.
Expressing condolences to the families of those affected by the violence, the governor revealed that the PDP lost five members in the chaos caused by the APC and their alleged hired thugs.
Among the victims, two were from Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government, another two were killed in Ola-Oluwa Local Government, and one person lost their life in Ikire.
The governor urged for an end to the violence and the needless loss of lives.
In response to the crisis, the governor has directed security agencies to take full control of all local government secretariats across the state.
He reassured Osun residents of their safety and the protection of lives and properties, urging calm and cooperation from all stakeholders.
