The Osun Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has downplayed the recent defections of two members, including House of Representatives member Oluwole Oke, and accused Oke of leaving due to the Governor’s refusal to grant him an automatic ticket
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has accused House of Representatives member, Oluwole Oke, of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s refusal to grant him an automatic ticket for the next elections.

This comes as the party reaffirmed its unity despite the recent defection of two of its members — Wole Oke and former Senator Felix Ogunwale.
In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity, Hezekiah Olabamiji, the PDP described the exit of the duo as inconsequential, noting that neither had made meaningful contributions to the party’s recent electoral victories.
He added that, despite internal sabotage, the party triumphed — demonstrating the governor’s popularity and the resilience of the PDP’s structure.
He wanted the governor to impose him as a candidate, but Governor Adeleke is a democrat.
The statement also pointed to the dwindling strength of the opposition, asserting that the APC has lost over 45 percent of its members across the 30 local government areas of the state.
Commenting on Oke’s defection, Olabamiji alleged that the five-term lawmaker left the party because he was afraid of contesting in the primaries.
“He wanted the governor to impose him as a candidate, but Governor Adeleke is a democrat,” the statement read. “Even in his constituency, Oke’s aides and allies have refused to follow him in defection.”
Regarding Senator Ogunwale, Olabamiji downplayed his relevance, saying, “He hails from Iragbiji, the hometown of Oyetola, and was never a factor in PDP’s success.”
He concluded by emphasising the party’s continued popularity under Governor Adeleke’s leadership, affirming that “the PDP remains firmly rooted and widely supported across the state.”
SaharaReporters earlier reported the defection of Oluwole Oke, who represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State.

“I have consulted widely with my political associates, friends, and family members, and have come to the conclusion that it is time to move on,” Oke said in his letter, citing the need to realign with “political realities and aspirations of his constituents.”
