Osun imposes strict curfew in Igbajo after unrest

Osun governor Adeleke orders 24-hour curfew in Igbajo after law and order breakdown following the death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, announced on Monday, 1 December 2025, a 24-hour curfew in Igbajo town, Boluwaduro local government, after a breakdown of law and order, marking a decisive Osun curfew Igbajo action to restore peace.

The unrest followed the death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun last Saturday after a brief illness. The breakdown prompted intelligence-based recommendations from the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Barr. Samuel Ojo.

Osun Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, said a contingent of security personnel, including the Army, Police, DSS and NSCDC, will enforce round-the-clock surveillance in the town until full peace is restored.

Governor Adeleke condemned the unrest, stressing that his administration would not allow civil disobedience to disrupt the peace and harmony experienced across Osun State.

He warned residents that any acts capable of escalating the situation would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“It is with deep shock and dismay that I received the sad news of the breakdown of law and order in Igbajo,” Adeleke said. “As Chief Security Officer of Osun State, I hereby declare an immediate lockdown pending a return to orderliness and harmonious co-existence.”

The governor extended his condolences to the family of the late Prince Adegboyega Famodun and the wider Igbajo community, praying for the prince’s gentle soul to rest in peace.
