Osun 2026 budget of N705bn passes second reading as Assembly moves the Appropriation Bill to committee stage for scrutiny

Osun 2026 budget has advanced to the next legislative stage after the State House of Assembly passed the N705 billion Draft Appropriation Bill for second reading on Monday.

The approval followed the presentation of the policy thrust by Adewumi Babajide, the House Majority Leader, who noted that the expanded budget size was designed to support ongoing infrastructural development and other critical projects across the state.

Lawmakers contributing to the debate described the bill as essential for economic growth and infrastructural progress, urging its speedy passage to ensure timely implementation.

Speaker Adewale Egbedun endorsed the views of his colleagues, assuring that the bill would receive thorough consideration.

He explained that, in line with Order 95, subsection 5 (b) of the House Standing Orders, the Appropriation Bill had been committed to the Committee on Finance and Appropriation for detailed scrutiny.

Egbedun directed the committee to prepare a timetable for the appearance of ministries, departments and agencies for budget defence sessions scheduled to run from 24 November to 4 December.

Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier presented the Osun 2026 budget of N705 billion on 13 November, describing it as the Budget of Economic Transformation.

He said the financial plan reflects his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens through strategic investment and responsible spending.

The budget includes recurrent expenditure of N317 billion, made up of N135 billion for personnel costs and N182 billion for overheads, representing 45 per cent of the total outlay.

Capital expenditure is projected at N388 billion, accounting for 55 per cent of the proposed budget.

With the second reading completed, attention now shifts to the committee stage, where the finer details of the Osun 2026 budget will be reviewed before returning to the chamber for consideration and final passage.
