The victim, 34-year-old Okudili Okoro, was fatally shot during the attack, which targeted a prominent local businesswoman named Mrs. Orogun.
Around 10:30 pm on Thursday, about ten armed men stormed the community in two unregistered vehicles, according to eyewitness accounts.
The kidnappers launched a ruthless commando-style assault, firing indiscriminately before forcibly taking Mrs. Orogun, known for her large provisions store, and killing Mr. Okoro in the process.
Despite multiple military and police checkpoints on the Akure/Owo roads, the criminals escaped with their victim, raising concerns about security gaps in the area.
Ondo State Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the attack and the abduction, stating the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has personally visited the scene.
Tactical commanders have been ordered to intensify efforts to rescue Mrs. Orogun and apprehend the kidnappers swiftly.
This incident comes just two weeks after another high-profile kidnapping in Ondo State, where an Adekunle Ajasin University official was abducted but later released after a ransom was paid.
