Ondo Police Confirm Fatal APC Congress Violence after two people died and three were injured during clashes at a ward congress in Idanre
The Ondo State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed that two people died and three others were injured during violence at the All Progressives Congress ward congress in Idanre, Ondo State, on 18 February 2026.

Abayomi Jimoh, Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, disclosed the fatalities in a statement issued in Akure, the state capital.
Abayomi Jimoh said the disturbance occurred at about 11:05am after the command received a distress call from the Divisional Police Officer in Idanre.
According to Abayomi Jimoh, a group of individuals allegedly carried out violent acts during the political exercise, prompting an immediate operational response.
Adebowale Lawal, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, swiftly deployed tactical teams to reinforce security in the area. Adebowale Lawal later proceeded to the scene alongside Oluyemi Ibiloye, State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, leading a combined team of security operatives.
The intervention restored calm after five persons were reportedly attacked and a vehicle set ablaze in the unrest.
Three victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical treatment, while two others were confirmed dead at hospital.
Abayomi Jimoh said no arrests had been made as of Wednesday, but investigations were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding what the police described as a heinous act.
Adebowale Lawal also visited the injured victims to assess their condition and assured them of the command’s support, describing the episode as deeply troubling.

The Ondo State Police Command urged residents to remain calm and continue lawful activities without fear, insisting that adequate security measures had been put in place to ensure sustained peace and stability across the state.
