Shettima described the flooding situation in Maiduguri as a “national calamity,” highlighting the urgent need for action. He stated, “The President has shown his zeal, willingness, and commitment to partner with the states towards addressing these issues.”
Recently, President Tinubu allocated N3 billion to each state to tackle these challenges, ensuring all parts of the federation have a sense of ownership and involvement in the relief efforts. Shettima commended Speaker Tajudeen for his leadership in the National Assembly, acknowledging the stability he has fostered despite nearly 70 per cent of members being newly sworn in.
A harmonious relationship among the executive, legislature, and judiciary is crucial for sustaining democracy in Nigeria, according to Shettima. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the President and the government of Borno for the support shown by the National Assembly.
In response, Speaker Tajudeen extended condolences to Shettima, Tinubu, and the people of Borno State, assuring them that the National Assembly would provide support for affected communities. He expressed shared concerns and pledged to ensure that the affected individuals receive necessary palliatives to regain their livelihoods.
“We share your pains; we are together in this from the beginning to the end,” Tajudeen said, affirming the commitment of the National Assembly to aid in recovery effort.
