Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa fulfils ₦50 million education promise, gifting ₦100,000 each to 500 public school students across Lagos State

Christmas came early for 500 public secondary school students across Lagos State as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, fulfilled his pledge of ₦100,000 each made during his birthday celebration in November.

The cash disbursement, amounting to ₦50 million, was redeemed in December, bringing excitement and relief to students drawn from public schools across the state’s six education districts.

The promise was initially made when the students attended Obasa’s pre birthday youth engagement programme, held to mark his birthday on November 11, 2025.

Confirming the fulfilment of the pledge, Dr Mrs Sherifat Abiodun Adedoyin, a member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, described the gesture as a clear demonstration of Obasa’s commitment to education and youth development in Lagos State.

She said the Speaker had graciously redeemed his promise of ₦100,000 to each of the 500 students, noting that the initiative would significantly support their educational needs and encourage academic excellence across public schools in the state.

According to Adedoyin, the board deeply appreciates the gesture, adding that such interventions inspire hope and create lasting positive impact within communities.

Speaking earlier at the youth focused pre birthday event themed “The Youth: Striving to Greater Heights”, Obasa described the ₦50 million educational support as a strategic investment in the future of Lagos public school students. He explained that the initiative was designed to open doors to education, vocational training and entrepreneurship for young people who often face economic limitations.

Turning the celebration into a platform for mentorship and motivation, the Speaker urged students to view challenges as opportunities rather than limitations. He emphasised the importance of focus, perseverance and faith in God as essential tools for navigating life’s hurdles.

Obasa told the students that his personal journey was intended to serve as a message and a wake up call to young Nigerians to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams with passion and determination. He encouraged them to unlock their potential and take advantage of the opportunities available within the country.

He further announced the launch of a structured mentorship programme aimed at pairing promising young talents with experienced professionals, describing it as a pathway to sustained growth, leadership development and long term impact.

According to the Speaker, inspiration alone is not enough, adding that deliberate support systems are necessary to help young people translate ambition into achievement.
