The Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, Mrs Folashade Ambrose, made this disclosure on Tuesday during a ministerial press briefing marking the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.

Mrs Ambrose added that other supermarkets have been sanctioned and fined.

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency is also educating consumers, encouraging them to report such incidents.

“Lagos State officials have revealed that 35 supermarkets were closed down between January and April for selling expired products.”

The Commissioner further stated that the Lagos Investment Roundtable has generated numerous Expressions of Interest from both local and international investors, which are currently under discussion.

“One of the major outcomes is the partnership with the Lagos State Government, through the ministry, which successfully concluded a $200 million partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports aimed at developing critical infrastructure and logistics within the Lekki corridor, boosting ICT innovation, healthcare facilities, and port,” she said.

“A notable milestone was the Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, positioning Lagos as a gateway for trade and Investment among 56 Commonwealth nations,” Mrs Ambrose added.

The state government is also focusing on developing industrial infrastructure. In Ikorodu, construction is progressing on a new Small-Scale Industrial Estate at Gberigbe, set to house 44 light manufacturing and agro-processing businesses, with delivery expected in the third quarter of the year.

“Similarly, plans have been drawn to revamp older industrial estates in Ikeja, Ilupeju, Oshodi-Isolo, and Amuwo-Odofin. So far… supermarkets are springing up very frequently,” the Commissioner noted.
