NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso accuses Atiku Abubakar of misleading Northern clerics, warning against building leadership on falsehoods.
[dropcap]R[/dropcap]abiu Kwankwaso, National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has criticised Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of misleading Northern clerics and political leaders with false claims.
Speaking during an interview with Radio France International’s Hausa Service, Kwankwaso expressed outrage over reports that Atiku allegedly fabricated details about an agreement on Nigeria’s presidency.

“I was deeply angered about the information,” Kwankwaso remarked. “Elderly people aged 70 to 80 years will sit and lie, telling clerics and other leaders something that never happened. This is not good for a personality to lie.”
Kwankwaso further questioned the integrity of leadership built on untruths. “If a government is formed on the basis of lies, it’s like starting a foundation on a weak structure. With these lies, we can’t believe such people when they promise to serve only one term in office.”
The NNPP leader’s comments come amidst ongoing political discourse in Nigeria, highlighting tensions within the opposition.
Kwankwaso emphasised that his sources confirmed the alleged misinformation, stating, “There is no way you can assemble over 40 people without me having two or three among them that will inform me of what transpired in the meeting.”
This controversy adds another layer to the political dynamics following Nigeria’s 2023 elections, as parties continue to grapple with internal divisions and public scrutiny.
