VIEW condemns the Kebbi schoolgirls abduction, calling for urgent rescue and accountability, highlighting Nigeria’s leadership failure to protect vulnerable children

Voices for Inclusion and Equity for Women (VIEW) has issued a sharp condemnation of the recent Kebbi schoolgirls abduction, describing it as a direct challenge to Nigeria’s leadership and collective humanity.

In a statement signed by prominent activists including Asmau Joda, Maryam Uwais, Mairo Mandara, and Kadaria Ahmed, VIEW decried Monday’s dawn attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, which left the Vice Principal dead and 25 students abducted.

The group insisted the incident underscores a persistent failure by the Nigerian state to safeguard its most vulnerable citizens.

“This mass kidnapping is not simply another security incident. It is a brutal indictment of years of unfulfilled promises and weak implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative,” the statement read.

VIEW highlighted that, more than a decade after tragedies such as Chibok, Dapchi, and Jangebe, schools in Northern Nigeria remain perilously exposed.

Many signatories have been directly involved in the Bring Back Our Girls campaign and continue to work with communities traumatised by insecurity.

The coalition called on political leaders, security agencies, and northern representatives to take immediate, intelligence-driven action to rescue the girls, and demanded daily public updates on progress.

“This is not a moment for silence or excuses. The abduction of the Maga girls must be treated as a national emergency,” VIEW warned.

In addition, the women’s group urged the President, First Lady, Kebbi State Governor, Northern Governors’ Forum, Arewa House of Representatives Caucus, Arewa Consultative Forum, and all security and traditional leaders to demonstrate visible leadership in resolving the crisis.

“No nation can claim to value its future while abandoning its daughters to violence,” the coalition said, stressing that the girls’ safe return is an urgent test of Nigeria’s leadership and humanity.

VIEW, operating across North Central, North-East, and North-West Nigeria, is dedicated to promoting equitable and inclusive societies for women, advocating for safety, justice, and accountability.
