The decision was disclosed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Junaidu Marshall, following the council meeting chaired by Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

According to Marshall, the move is part of the government’s broader commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring facilities are modernised to meet the needs of residents.

Hospitals to benefit from the funding include those in Kambaza, Suru, Kamba, Dirin-Daji, Kangiwa, Koko, and Yauri.

He added that Argungu General Hospital has already been fully rehabilitated and equipped.

“So far, 16 general hospitals have been rehabilitated. With this new approval, the figure will rise to 23 under Governor Idris’ administration,” Marshall said.

The governor has pledged that all 30 general hospitals in the state will be fully rehabilitated before the end of his term.

In further efforts to expand healthcare access, the council also approved ₦570 million for the Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA).

The funding will support the registration of 45,000 vulnerable persons across the state’s 225 wards, enabling them to access affordable care.

Marshall also revealed the state’s participation in the World Bank IMPACT project, confirming Kebbi has fulfilled its counterpart funding for the rehabilitation of 73 primary healthcare centres (PHCs).

An additional 42 PHCs will now be rehabilitated using state funds.

To address medicine availability, the council approved ₦407.5 million as a take-off grant for the Kebbi State Drugs, Medical and Consumable Agency, which aims to provide subsidised drugs across the state.

Beyond healthcare, other major approvals from the council included:

  • ₦900 million for the establishment of the Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics, tasked with generating credible data for planning and policy.
  • ₦3 billion for the purchase of 2,000 power tillers under the Kaura Development Agenda (KADAGE) to bolster agricultural production.
  • ₦1.4 billion for school furniture across the state to enhance the learning environment.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Abba Sani-Kalgo, confirmed that Prof. Umar Usman has been appointed as the first tatistician-General of the new Bureau of Statistics.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Mu’azu, and the Chief of Staff, Attahiru Maccido, praised the wide-reaching impact of these approvals, noting they form part of the administration’s commitment to human capital development.

“The people of Kebbi will see the tangible benefits of these projects in their daily lives — from health and education to farming,” Maccido stated.
