The attack reportedly occurred around 12:10 p.m. while the children’s father, Haruna Bashir, was away at the market.
Neighbours said they heard desperate cries for help coming from the house. One resident, Malam Bala Abubakar, said he rushed out after hearing the woman pleading for her life.
Despite efforts by neighbours and local leaders to intervene, the victims were found critically injured and were later confirmed dead at the hospital.
Police officers, acting on the directive of the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, arrived at the scene shortly after and launched an investigation.
A suspect was reportedly discovered hiding in a toilet within the compound, leading to further arrests.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest of three suspects: Umar Auwalu (23), Isyaku Yakubu (40), and Yakubu Abdulaziz (21). Police sources said one of the suspects is a nephew of the deceased woman.
In a disturbing development, residents alleged that some of the suspects attended the victims’ funeral, posing as sympathisers while detectives monitored their movements.
Police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
