Jurrien Timber begins new Arsenal contract talks

Jurrien Timber Arsenal contract talks begin as the club seeks to reward his strong comeback and extend his deal beyond 2028

Jurrien Timber Arsenal contract talks are officially underway as the Premier League side looks to secure the Dutch international’s long-term future following his impressive return to form.

The 24-year-old defender, who joined Arsenal from Ajax in 2023 for £34.4 million, is in early negotiations with the club, according to BBC Sport.

Timber’s current contract runs until 2028, but the Gunners are keen to reward his development and status as a key starter under Mikel Arteta.

Despite a major setback during his debut season—an ACL injury in the opening match against Nottingham Forest—Timber bounced back spectacularly.

]After missing nearly the entire 2023–24 season, he returned to full fitness and made 51 appearances in the 2024–25 campaign, quickly becoming the club’s first-choice right-back.

His continued consistency and defensive versatility this season have further solidified his place in the team, prompting Arsenal to open talks to secure his services for the long haul.

Sources close to the club suggest that there is mutual interest from both Arsenal and Timber in reaching a new agreement.

The mood in north London remains positive, with negotiations also ongoing with Bukayo Saka, another key player expected to commit his future to the Emirates.

This comes after William Saliba recently signed a new five-year deal, highlighting Arsenal’s strategy to build around a core of young, high-performing talent.

Jurrien Timber Arsenal contract talks mark yet another signal of the club’s confidence in its youthful spine and its intention to lock down players who have proven vital both on and off the pitch.
