Imo Police defilement arrest follows a viral video as officers detain a suspect and probe alleged misconduct within the Command
he Imo State Police Command on Thursday arrested Wisdom Onyeaju, a 24 year old man, over an alleged defilement case linked to a viral video, in Owerri, Imo State.

The arrest was made on January 8, 2026, after the family of the victim provided credible information to the police, following widespread public attention generated by the video on social media.
Police identified Wisdom Onyeaju as a native of Umuekweye, Irete, in Owerri West Local Government Area.
The Imo Police defilement arrest followed allegations shared on social media by the victim’s sister, whose account, @General_Somto, brought the case into public focus.
In a post dated January 3, the victim’s sister alleged that the 15 year old girl was assaulted while visiting Imo State during the Christmas period.
She claimed that the attacker forced his way into the premises and threatened the victim with a knife before committing the alleged act.
The social media post further alleged that some police officers initially demanded money before taking the victim’s statement, an allegation that intensified public outrage and scrutiny.
Police authorities said the suspect is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, where investigators have commenced a thorough probe.
The Command stated that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations and filing of appropriate charges.
In a related development, the Imo State Police Command confirmed that officers accused of professional misconduct in the handling of the case have been identified and detained.
An orderly room trial is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 12, 2026, in line with extant police regulations.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Okoye Henry, said the Command remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and accountability.
He assured members of the public that justice will be served, describing the response as decisive amid heightened public scrutiny.
