Gunmen attacked a church in Ogun State, killing Prophet Yomi Adetula during a service. Police are investigating the brutal incident
[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n a shocking incident on Sunday, gunmen stormed the Celestial Church of Christ’s Eagle Parish in the Odo Eran Idiroko area of Ogun State, killing Prophet Yomi Adetula during a morning service.

The tragic event unfolded at approximately 10:30 AM, leaving worshippers in a state of panic and sorrow.
According to eyewitnesses, three armed men entered the church along Old Baggage Road, wielding a double-barrelled gun.
The attackers targeted Prophet Adetula, aged 54, firing multiple shots before fleeing in the direction of the border area. Chaos erupted as worshippers scrambled for safety during the violent assault.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.
“Around 10:30 AM on 19 January 2025, the Idiroko divisional police officer received a report about a murder at the Celestial Church along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko,” Odutola revealed.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the prophet’s lifeless body lying face-up in a pool of blood. His white Celestial garment was soaked through, and the body bore multiple bullet wounds.

Officers also discovered severe head injuries caused by an axe, highlighting the brutality of the attack.
The assailants caused chaos during their escape, leaving no trace as they fled toward the border area. While no arrests have been made so far, the police assured the public that a manhunt is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Prophet Adetula’s body has been transported to the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro, where an autopsy will be conducted to aid further investigations.
In light of the incident, the police have urged residents and church members to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement officers.
