The Nigerian music scene is buzzing once again with a heated exchange between Afrobeat star Seun Kuti and Grammy-winning singer Wizkid, escalating into a fiery online clash over legacy, relevance, and family ties.
In a scathing Instagram Story response, Seun Kuti, son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, unleashed a barrage of insults directed at Wizkid.
The post, which has since gone viral, accuses Wizkid of exploiting Fela’s name for years to sustain his career and fame.
Seun wrote:
“You have used my dad’s name to feed your family for years. He paid the way for years. He paid the way for you, dwarf… Wizkid, I’m not scared of you. You don’t make better music than me—everybody knows your music is wack. That’s why you’re beefing Davido, just to stay relevant. First of all, clean the tattoo of my dad off your dirty body. MONKEY.”

The outburst appears to be a direct retaliation to Wizkid’s earlier posts, where he declared himself “bigger than Fela” and insulted Seun as a “fool at 40,” amid ongoing fan-driven debates about comparing modern Afrobeats stars to the iconic Fela.
Wizkid has a prominent tattoo of Fela on his body, which he has cited as a sign of respect and admiration for the late legend’s influence on his work and the genre’s global reach.
The feud reportedly stems from Seun repeatedly calling out Wizkid’s fanbase (Wizkid FC) for dragging Fela’s legacy into comparisons and online hype battles, insisting such talk disrespects his father’s unparalleled contributions to Afrobeat and freedom fighting.
Wizkid hit back by defending his fans, highlighting how he has introduced Fela’s music to newer generations, and escalating with personal jabs.
Seun’s response has sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising his defense of family legacy and others criticizing it as unnecessary or jealousy-fueled.
The drama has also pulled in mentions of other artists like Davido, further amplifying the buzz in Nigerian entertainment circles.
This isn’t the first time tensions have flared between the two, but the personal attacks; touching on family, physical appearance, music quality, and even body art, have taken it to a new level of intensity.
Fans are divided, with calls for both stars to de-escalate while the internet continues to feast on the receipts.
