In a statement released on Saturday in Asaba, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the arrest was made during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) at Koka Roundabout.
According to the police statement, the incident occurred on November 6, 2025, when operatives noticed the suspect’s suspicious behaviour and subjected him to a thorough search.
“In the course of the search, a fabricated Beretta pistol was discovered carefully concealed inside a loaf of bread,” Edafe said.
“The suspect, later identified as Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, aged 24, was immediately arrested and taken into custody.”
The police confirmed that the recovered weapon has been secured as an exhibit while investigations continue to determine Chibuike’s possible links to armed robbery and kidnapping incidents within Asaba and neighbouring communities.
Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the RRS operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, describing the interception as a testament to the Command’s intelligence-driven crime prevention strategy.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting criminal elements, regardless of their tactics, and urged residents to remain vigilant while sharing credible information with law enforcement agencies.
In a separate operation earlier this month, the Command intercepted a Hiace bus loaded with controlled substances, including codeine and tramadol, at a toll gate in Asaba — another major success in its fight against criminal networks in the state.
