The annual event, which began on 24 October, has been broadened this year to include more inclusive programmes promoting holistic community development.
According to a company statement released on Wednesday, the initiative reinforces Dangote Cement’s ongoing commitment to fostering unity and progress in its host communities.
The opening ceremony set an energetic tone for a week dedicated to collaboration and shared purpose, drawing active participation from employees and residents of surrounding communities.
A major highlight of the festivities was a spirited football tournament designed to promote teamwork and strengthen social bonds.
The grand finale, held on 29 October 2025 at the Obajana Academy Field, saw the Oyo Community Football Team crowned champions after edging Dangote Cement Transport with a 1–0 victory.
The match marked the thrilling conclusion of several days of competition among teams from Dangote Cement Obajana Plant, Dangote Cement Transport, and the host communities.
The football event went beyond recreation, serving as a platform to build friendship and deepen trust between the company and its neighbours. Senior management members—including Plant Director Mr Azad Nawabuddin,
CGM Maintenance Mr Panjala Sreedar, CGM Production Mr John Gwong, and GM Special Duties Mr Ademola Adeyemi—were present to cheer the teams and applaud the event’s success.
The ceremony concluded with warm commendations from participants and guests, who praised the initiative for promoting harmony and reinforcing Dangote Cement’s core values of inclusion, collaboration, and sustainable community development.
Complementing the sports segment was an Inter-School Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition featuring ten secondary schools from the host communities.
The academic challenge gave young learners a platform to showcase their knowledge and intellectual creativity.
After several tense rounds, Golden Vessels Academy, Obajana, emerged victorious in the Spelling Bee, earning praise for its outstanding performance.
In his address during the launch, Plant Director Mr Azad Nawabuddin explained the company’s motivation behind the expanded Sustainability Week programming.
“Our investment in sports infrastructure and events demonstrates a deep commitment to the holistic well-being of our community members,” he said.
“The football tournament builds more than just excitement—it builds character, teaches teamwork, and forges stronger partnerships between our organisation and the communities we serve.”
Head of HAM-Admin/HR, Mr Peter Agba, also highlighted the company’s dual focus on physical and intellectual growth.
“Our strategy integrates sports and education because we believe in nurturing both the body and the mind,” he said. “Engaging youth through games while stimulating their intellect through competitions lays a solid foundation for sustainable growth.”
The successful launch of the 2025 Dangote Sustainability Week paves the way for a series of upcoming initiatives, including environmental projects, health awareness campaigns, and skill development workshops.
This expanded agenda embodies Dangote Cement’s evolving sustainability philosophy—one that recognises the link between wellness, education, and environmental responsibility.
The company reiterated its commitment to ongoing engagement through quarterly sports events and continuous educational programmes, ensuring that community empowerment extends far beyond a single week of celebration.
As the week progresses, Dangote Cement remains unwavering in its mission to inspire meaningful progress through partnership, innovation, and responsible corporate citizenship.
