The APC denies issuing a resignation directive for Lagos council chairpersons seeking re-election, urging accurate reporting ahead of 2025 polls.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations that incumbent local government chairpersons seeking re-election in Lagos State were instructed to resign ahead of the 2025 council polls.
APC spokesperson Mr Seye Oladejo debunked the claim in a statement issued on Monday evening, labelling the reports as “fake news” aimed at misleading the public and party members.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false directive purportedly issued by the Lagos State Chairman of APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to incumbent Council Chairmen who intend to seek re-election, urging them to resign.
This claim is baseless and has been deliberately twisted to suit the publisher’s agenda,” Oladejo stated.
He clarified that the actual directive applies only to APC Local Government Party Chairmen intending to run for elective positions.
Such individuals will be required to step down from their party roles, as they cannot serve as both umpires and contestants.
“The local government party chairmen doubling as aspirants in the forthcoming elections must resign their positions once the electoral guidelines are released,” he added.
Oladejo also urged party members and the public to refrain from spreading misinformation that could disrupt party cohesion and the political atmosphere.
He emphasised that APC is awaiting official guidelines from the newly reconstituted Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and called for unity within the party.
This clarification comes amid heightened political activity in Lagos State as preparations for the 2025 local council polls gain momentum.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and fostering party unity throughout the electoral process.
