Anthony Joshua Dangote trucks comparison follows fatal crash as police arrest one driver while the public questions unequal enforcement

Anthony Joshua, the British heavyweight boxing champion, survived a fatal car accident that killed two of his close friends, while police handcuffed and detained his driver, triggering public debate over why drivers of Dangote trucks are often not immediately arrested after similar crashes.

Police said the vehicle carrying Anthony Joshua, his two friends, and his personal driver was involved in a serious collision.

Emergency services confirmed that the two passengers died at the scene.

Anthony Joshua was treated for minor injuries and later released.

His driver was handcuffed and taken into police custody as part of the investigation, according to officers at the scene.

The police action has sparked intense public scrutiny on social media and in community discussions, with many Nigerians questioning why drivers involved in crashes with Dangote trucks are often not arrested immediately, even when accidents result in fatalities.

“A man explained that the authorities acted quickly due to the multiple fatalities and the need for immediate statements from those involved,” the source said.

Road safety advocates say the issue is not about individuals, but about consistency in law enforcement.

“This is about equal treatment,” said one Lagos-based transport safety campaigner.

“People are asking why one driver is detained right away while others in similar situations appear to walk free.”

Dangote Industries has not been formally accused of wrongdoing in this case, and there is no official link between the Joshua crash and any Dangote vehicle.

However, repeated reports of fatal accidents involving heavy trucks across Nigerian highways have kept the company’s fleet at the centre of road safety debates.

Police officials stated that all serious road accidents are investigated individually and that arrests depend on preliminary findings, witness statements, and evidence gathered at the scene.

The tragedy has drawn widespread sympathy for Anthony Joshua, who lost two close friends in the crash. Messages of condolence have poured in from athletes, fans, and public figures.

As investigations continue, the accident has become a powerful symbol of broader concerns about traffic safety, accountability, and whether all drivers are treated equally under the law.
